first impressions

they are about 12 weeks – a little older than i originally wanted, but when i saw them, they were smaller than they look in photos. i spent over an hour with them in the bathroom at the foster house to get to know them (while the family had dinner downstairs). there were three of them, and for an insane but real moment, i considered getting all three because i didn’t want to separate the two brothers. the sister was all over being petted and playing. the brother i had scoped out on the website was the shy one, and i was told he would hiss at me. he didn’t hiss, but he was scared and shook if i tried to pick him up. but after awhile, he warmed up to me and took to licking my fingers any time they were close enough. the other brother had a goatee and reminded me too much of T, lol. i knew right away which ones i wanted.

i named her clea (after cleopatra because she is queen and she knows it!!) and the shy one oreo (the ‘new oreo’ – white filling on the outside!). i got them home and left them in the carrier case until i set up the bathroom, where they would stay for a couple of days, especially while i was at work. you could tell clea was ready to hit the pavement of exploration, but i had to ensure i had everything set up before she did. once i opened the door, she was out like a bolt. oreo was a bit slower but eventually came out, too.

after i fed them (they were hungry!), i sat on the bathroom floor with them (which is not an easy task considering the floor space was about 1 metre square and covered with kitty stuff) and petted, pawed, and photographed. oreo was quite content with me (back to licking my fingers) – i think he was glad to have left his foster home where the little boy of six was just too hyper and loud around him. clea was occupied with the catnip stuffy i gave her – she went crazy over it. if i get around to uploading the video, you’ll see just how crazy for catnip she was! when i saw oreo fall asleep, i desperately wanted to hit my own bed. but i couldn’t stop hanging out with them! eventually, i did tear myself away.

in the morning, i went into the bathroom to do my hair, and i left the door open a bit to air out the shower steam. the instant clea saw the door open for more than a second, she bolted! i ran after her and chased her around the apartment for a good five minutes before i was able to trick her into coming to me, so i could pick her up and take her back to the bathroom.

another time i went in, i could see only clea. my eyes darted around, but i couldn’t find oreo. then i almost started freaking out, but there was no escape route! so, where was he? i raised my eyebrows and pulled back the shower curtain. there was oreo, sitting on the bottom of the bathtub staring up at me. i was glad he was exploring on his own. even queen clea hadn’t been in the bathtub yet.

before i left for work, i decided to bring over the cat tree and put it into the bathtub, so that they would have some extra stimulation. of course, i needed the door open for a bit to drag it in. yes, clea took advantage again! and i had to run around chasing her again (at least i was dressed this time, lol). she will definitely be bored in the bathroom today!!

it’s a bit of a challenge getting them in the middle of the week. i wasn’t actually expecting to get kittens until i was on holiday sept 12, or this weekend at the earliest. but my impatience persuaded me to do it NOW, lol.

is it time to go home yet and play with them?!

I had four cats - now I have six but still no one to talk to, LOL. So, I write this blog to entertain me, myself, and I... and perhaps you.

  2. aww They're gorgeous. My cat loves to sit in the bathtub after someone has had a shower. I have absolutely no idea what he's doing. He just sits there in the water.
